脳梁は新生児期に容積を増す段階で男女差が発現する。この時期髄鞘化が進行するから，脳梁の容積増加は新しい軸索の伸長によるよりは髄鞘によるところが大きいとみられる。同時にこの時期には数多くのニューロンが大脳皮質で整理されることが知られているので，脳梁容積の性差はニューロンの量と質の性差といえる。30歳以下の女性と男性それぞれ20例の脳梁の型の検討の結果，すでに報告されていたとおり女性の脳梁には一つの傾向があり，交連線維の数は女性のほうが多いと結論できる。

一般的にいってfeed forward処理に働いているとされるsupragranural outputが脳梁容積増加により人きく寄与しているとみてよかろう。さらに推測を重ねて左右同一領野がたがいに線維を交える（homotopic communication）がある程度の分量を占めているとすると，いくつかの領野，脳回に対称性が生じる可能性もあるはずである。この仮定のもとに前回の20例－20例のごとく，今回も女性，男性それぞれ20例で脳梁の形状と前頭葉および側頭葉の対称性を調査してみた。脳梁が女性型と準女性型の例に前頭葉ならびに側頭葉の脳回の対称性が多く認められた。この結果はさらに多くの例で調査されるべきである。

Using MRI the morphological observation of the brains has obtained advances incomparably with the former specimen studies, as selection of slice direction is unlimited and diverse tomograms are made with optional thickness. Examination can be done voluntarily at any years of age.

For investigation of the cerebral morphology T1 weighted sequence is of the best choice, because the cortical surfaces appear free from cerebrospinal fluid signals and the medullary branching is precisely contrasted. On the mid-sagittal slice size and configuration of the corpus callosum is properly observable.
